Hot from the floor at this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, comes a professional autocue app for smartphones that’s perfect for videobloggers.

The Tiffen Company, a manufacturer and distributor of accessories for the still imaging, video, motion picture, and broadcast markets, is showcasing the Listec™ PromptWare PW-04 app for podcasters and bloggers wanting to add scripted dialog to their broadcasts. The Promptware system is already widely used in traditional broadcasting and normally drives teleprompter devices in studios and on location. This app installs it on your Android or iPhone (Click for download).

Steven Tiffen, President and CEO of The Tiffen Company says:

Listec Teleprompters lead the way with regards to innovation. As the first to market smartphone-supported prompters, we continue to pioneer the kind of cutting-edge technology that has a viable impact on the world of business and consumerism.

The Listec PromptWare Plus software highlights include:

  • Smooth Scrolling in landscape or portrait mode with mirrored display (for a through-the-screen reflected text setup) and automatic prompter orientation.
  • Prompting Screen Display to control font type, font size and on-screen text and background colors.
  • Users can type stories directly into the PromptWare Plus software, send via email, or add through Dropbox.

Most importantly, there are other teleprompter apps for iPhone, but until now Android phone users, like me, have been stuck for a simple solution.

Other mobile devices, iPads and Kindles in particular, are already being used as low budget teleprompters to support professional video production on location and in-studio,  but for bloggers using small handheld cameras, this app could be a useful tool.

If you really are on a tight budget and you want to to set up a through-the-lens prompter for recording your video links, here is a DIY solution using a CD case.
